Maintenance Tip of the Week

Mercedes-benz-e-class-coupe-interior-7-lg

Leather cars seats are durable and don’t require a lot of maintenance. After a few years, however, the seats can become soiled. Use a leather cleaner to remove dirt and stains. Then apply a leather protectant formulated for pigmented or top-coated grain leather (the leather used for most leather car upholstery). Protectants will resist stains and make the upholstery easier to clean in the future. Choose a protectant that includes conditioners to keep your leather supple.

2014 Mercedes CLA 45 AMG: First exclusive look

Mercedes_cla_45_amg_
Mercedes-Benz is about to unveil the all-new 2014 CLA 45 AMG to the world in Geneva next month. But just ahead of the official reveal, the German automaker gives us a glimpse on the newest AMG. The all-new Mercedes-Benz 2014 CLA is a new model from the German automaker and it will make its launch next spring. In keeping with its sporty positioning, the compact mid-range four-door coupe is available in the top model CLA 45 AMG. This week Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) presented in New York the latest version of their Driveclub for the new PlayStation 4 (PS4) with an image pictured here of the new 2014 CLA 45 AMG.

The new high-powered top model will give Mercedes a fascinating high-performance vehicle in the compact class and broadens the portfolio of Mercedes-Benz's high-performance AMG brand. The car looks absolutely stunning and enticing. The new game from Sony will feature several exceptional sports cars from Mercedes-Benz including the new CLA 45 AMG and the new A 45 AMG. Mercedes says the audiovisual quality of the cars and the tracks is “staggering, and the view from the cockpit is absolutely true to life.”

World’s most powerful four-cylinder production engine

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG will be presented at the Geneva auto show and will for the first time be offering a high-performance vehicle in the compact class segment. It will feature the most powerful four-cylinder production engine on the planet. It will pump out an output of 360 horsepower and a maximum torque of 450 newton metres, the turbocharged AMG 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is the world's most powerful four-cylinder power unit in series production.

A new lightweight 4MATIC is featured

The A 45 AMG and the CLA 45 AMG are equipped as standard with the fully variable, performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. The CLA 45 AMG with 4MATIC will have a power take-off to the rear axle. Power is transferred to all four wheels via the AMG Speedshift DCT seven-speed automatic sports transmission. The new unit will be integrated with an electrohydraulically controlled multi-disc clutch that will allow fully variable distribution of the drive torque between front and rear axle. A big benefit of the new design lowers the weight of the 4MATIC making it more fuel-efficient.

The CLA 45 AMG will also feature an AMG sports suspension with independently developed front and rear axles. The high-performance suspension will high-speed cornering and agile handling. It will also feature an electromechanical AMG speed-sensitive sports steering, AMG high-performance braking system and 3-stage ESP with "SPORT Handling" mode. The 3-stage stability program is also applied to adapt the control strategies of the variable 4MATIC system.

Both the 2014 Mercedes-Benz Cla 45 AMG and A 45 AMG high-performance vehicles will be celebrating their real-world premiere in Geneva next month. Driveclub and the new Playstation 4 console will be launching this holiday season.

New Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe spied in revealing state of dress

001-mercedes-benz-s-class-coupe-spy-shots628opt
During a product briefing earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz told us that 2013 would be the "year of the S-Class." Makes sense, too, since the flagship Mercedes is so very close to finally showing its production-ready face. But the high-tech saloon isn't the only S-Class to talk about this year – quite the contrary. Seen here in decidedly revealing camouflage, the new S-Class Coupe will be joining its four-door compadre in the not-too-distant future, as well.

When it launches, the S-Class Coupe will officially do away with the CL-Class nomenclature. This doesn't come as a huge shock. After all, when the new E-Class coupe and convertible were launched, it officially marked the end of the long-running CLK-Class designation.

Thanks to the interesting camouflage seen here, we have a very good glimpse at how the S-Class Coupe will look when all of the molding and swirly paper are peeled off. Rakish body lines pulled from the CLS-Class meet a much more dynamic front fascia. Out back, there are horizontal taillamps rather than the vertical units used on the current car, and the whole package seems very svelte. Our spy photographer even posits that this will be "the best-looking car from Mercedes-Benz in ages."

But while 2013 may be the year of the S-Class, that could just be limited to spy shots of the new coupe. The production car may not be shown until sometime in 2014, likely in Geneva.

Maintenance Tip of the Week

Lights

One indicator or blinker is flashing faster than the other

When you indicate one way and the blinker flashes quicker than when you indicate the other way, it means one of the bulbs has blown. An auto parts store will be able to tell you what sort of bulb you need to replace it with and your manual should show you how to get at the indicator bulbs - they're different on every car.

Don't touch the glass when changing headlight bulbs

Most headlight bulbs now are filled with halogen and have special coatings on the outside of the glass. If you pick the bulb up by the glass with your fingers, you will leave trace amounts of oil and grease on the glass. When the bulb is used, that area of the glass will get hotter than the rest and it will eventually cause the bulb to crack. When changing headlight bulbs, only hold the metal bulb holder at the base, or make sure you're wearing rubber surgical / mechanic's gloves (clean ones) if you're touching the glass.
